Information Processing in the Cell Nucleus

The human genome has ~20,000 protein-coding genes but nearly a million regulatory elements controlling their expression. This raises the question why such a large number of control elements is needed and how they drive cellular diversity. To find answers, we study genomic information processing in the nuclei of animal models.

    Understanding Cells and Engineering Tissues

The development and function of tissues and organs are governed by intricate spatial and temporal processes that integrate genetic, mechanical, and environmental cues. We investigate how these factors shape the organisation and behavior of cells within three-dimensional tissues. Using advanced imaging, mechanobiology, and interdisciplinary approaches we aim to create innovative applications in regenerative medicine and biotechnology.
